Abstract:

Contains correspondence, diaries, notebooks, and related material. Includes diary of Munson Gregory, 1850-1851; notebook and reminiscences of Mary McLean Hardy; correspondence between Warren Gregory and his mother, 1893-1895; and Civil War letters of Herbert Munson Gregory. Typed transcripts of some materials included.
Contains 121 letters, dated December 24, 1917-November 19, 1918, sent to Donald Gregory, mostly from his mother and father, Sadie and Warren Gregory, and other family members and acquaintances. The letters cover the period from when Donald Gregory left Berkeley for military training early in 1918 to the end of the year when the war with Europe was coming to an end. He trained at Camp Kearney in San Diego, California, and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the 145th Artillery, which was formed out of the Utah National Guard detachment. Includes a small number of cancelled checks signed by Gregory. Also includes an unrelated photocopy of the General Order of General Pershing, dated February 28, 1919, addressed to the American Expeditionary Force soldiers after the war ended and they were being disbanded. Chronological arrangement.
